Abstract
The world of work is going through a prolonged period of uncertainty. Structural changes to our economy are superimposed by technological advancements allied with the 4th industrial revolution. These changes affect us all, but especially the young who are getting ready to enter the labor market in a globalized but increasingly uncertain market economy. This paper focuses on the future of entrepreneurship in the 4th industrial revolution and explores opportunities available to Millennials and Generation Z. It aims to understand how new generations may harness the power of entrepreneurship to navigate through the 4th Industrial Revolution. The paper is based on a thematic inquiry and interview data derived from a recent study with University graduates. Interviews enabled deep meanings to be drawn out of the rich experiences of graduates who wanted to start a business, where some had succeeded but others had not. Conclusions were drawn from contextual interpretations of participants and the way they organized their experiences. Entrepreneurship is presented, not just as a viable career option, but also as a lifestyle choice and an avenue for self-actualization for new generations. In doing so this paper distinguishes technological advancements as expected metamorphic developments of the 3rd Industrial revolution and suggest that social change and the transformation of individual economic actors is at the core of the 4th industrial revolution.
